Westbury Harriers – Weekly News
Editors Piece
Just a very boring but important safety announcement. Some of you are still running in very dark kit when out on evening runs. Now is the time to find those brightly coloured running tops. Perhaps even treat yourself to a fluorescent running bib if you don’t already have one. Up and Running in Henleaze have plenty of choice and club members are entitled to a 10 percent discount.
Thursday Intervals
I’m able to give you the heads up for this Thursday’s interval session at Coombe Dingle. We have 5 sets of 30-40-50-60 with half time recoveries between efforts and 90 seconds between sets. There’s also the option to complete 4 sets and/or reduce the effort for those running the Gwent on Saturday and/or the Mendip Muddle on the Sunday.
Club Birthday Celebrations
It’s been a while since a reported a club birthday so I’m very excited to announce that Mike Hopkins will be celebrating his special day this Wednesday. Happy birthday Mike, have a great day.
Blaise Gwent League Volunteers Needed – Saturday 12th November
We need people to marshal the course, parking support & setup/clear up. Shifts are likely to be organised for morning / afternoon sessions, and if you know of anybody who’d be able to support who isn’t racing that would be even better! Friends, family even the next door neighbours, all help is appreciated and needed for the big day.
If you could provide your details using the link below that will help us organise volunteers and rota’s.

Dave Perkins Funeral Arrangements
This is to inform you that Dave’s funeral will be taking place on Wednesday 12th October at 11:00am. The venue is Westerleigh Cemetery and Crematorium, Westerleigh Road, Westerleigh, Bristol, BS37 8RF.
Member of the Month Winners
Not one, not two but three junior winners this month! Well done to Laura Chance, Elen Ruck and Abbie Woodworth for their fantastic run in the under 17 age group at the Cleeve Avon Road Relays.
The senior winner this month is the very inspiring Helen Sawyer. Helen won her nomination for a stack of running achievements including a very busy summer of racing, acting as a regular group 4 leader and a very impressive London Marathon. Helen was the second fastest Westbury runner to cross the finishing line in 3:52 which is also a good for age time for next years event.

Run Together – Gwent League Cardiff Saturday 15th October
Links to sign up and be part of the senior teams for the first Gwent League fixture on Saturday 15th October at Llandaff Fields, Cardiff are now on RunTogether. We need as many members out as possible, all abilities and ages welcomed.
Juniors planning to compete will need to inform their respective team managers.
Bristol Running Show – Ashton Court Saturday 26th November
The club are very excited to have a stand at this year’s running show and it will be a great opportunity to publicise the club and hopefully recruit plenty of new members.
We will be looking for volunteers from the club to do a few shifts during the day to help represent the club and answer questions from prospective future members. More details to come.
Strava Settings
For those of you running hill efforts, track or Coombe Dingle efforts, Strava recently introduce a privacy feature which could affect the visibility of your runs. This feature if applied by default, allows you to hide the start and end points of an activity, which would result in your first and last rep on a segment/route being ignored.
To change the default setting, go to your profile -> Settings – > Privacy Controls, and edit the setting for “Hide the start and end points of activities no matter where they happen” to “Off”
Budapest 10K
Mike Hurst says ‘after a slightly disappointing, but highly enjoyable London Marathon, I did Budapest 10k as a leg loosener. Easy flat and amazing for anyone wanting a PB! Looking forward to more races now’.

Have you Lost Some Kit?
Did anybody leave behind a black and white buff after last Thursday’s intervals? If so let me know and I’ll get it back to you.
Strava Segment of the Week
Well done to Vicky Tester on her PR on Strava segment Jamboree to Crossroads while she was supporting the men running the National Road Relays at Sutton Park today.
