Westbury Harriers – Weekly News
Editor’s Piece
Last Thursday, after intervals, we had another club supper at the Black Swan. Initially I was not really in the mood. After a busy week and a hard interval session I was looking forward to collapsing in front of the telly, but I had booked my place so went along. It turned out to be a very enjoyable evening and I’m glad I went. My only complaint is it is far too easy to order beer using the Wickwar app and after too many drinks I really did not want to get up in the morning. Bring back the days of queuing for ages at the bar, then getting to the front and being ignored by the serving staff!
Pictured below, Carol and a few friends get the marathon miles in.
Club Intervals- Some Long, Some Short
Session for this week has some slightly longer intervals geared towards those running marathons. We begin with 4mins (2mins recovery) 4 x 1min (1min recovery) 4mins (2mins recovery) 4 x 1min (1min recovery) 4mins.
Memorial Run for Mary Fullerton
A quick reminder that this coming Monday we have the memorial charity run for Mary Fullerton with all proceeds going to St Peter’s Hospice. It will be an informal club run starting from the Blaise club house at 7pm, but please wear your club kit. Afterwards we will be have a cake sale so do bring along some money and cake donations too! Bookings for the run are being taken using the run together app, link below: https://tinyurl.com/k2b59972
South West PB Series
Good luck to anybody in the club that’s running the South West PB Series at Odd Down Cycle Track this Wednesday. I’m afraid the whole series is now booked up for the year, but I’m sure Bristol and West will run the series again as it’s proved so popular.
Question, what do you find under a rainbow? Is it a pot of gold, no it’s Chris Palmer! Pictured below, Chris storms around the 3 lap course in a time of 17:43 to claim a seasons best. Photo thanks to @benm.photo

Leadership in Running Fitness (LiRF)
Many thanks to Sarah Andrews and Mark Munday who’ve both volunteered to become run leaders. Last week they both completed their Leadership in Running Fitness courses through England Athletics, so hopefully they will be out leading groups in the near future.
Return to Coombe Dingle Monday Training
The seniors plan to return to training at Coombe Dingle from Monday, 6th September. We have a coaches meeting this weekend and would really appreciate any feedback about Monday sessions, times and groups. What have you liked that has changed, what has worked better, what have you missed?
The RunTogether booking system will remain as this makes organisation and administration much easier. We are not sure yet what the format will look like as this is dependent on what our wonderful set of run leaders can offer. Welcome to post on facebook (please keep any criticism constructive) or email manager.women@westburyharriers.co.uk
Angels 10k: Part of the Gloucestershire AAA Road Race Series
I found this on the Dursley Running Club facebook page and as a few of our club members live in Gloucestershire I thought you may be interested. It’s a 10km race starting from Woodpeckers Cricket Club in Ashleworth (GL19 4JS) on Sunday, 5th September. It’s also part of the Gloucestershire Road Race County Championship for athletes resident in the county. Link to site below: https://tinyurl.com/4nxrmjep
Congratulations
Tim Synge is always up for a long trail run and today he combined it with a race. Tim was running the Plym Valley Trail Marathon, completed in a very impressive time of 4 hours.
Tom Reed was running something just a tad shorter in distance today, the Heatlands Parkrun (near Penzance), coming 1st place in a time of 18 minutes. Apparently his first ever Parkrun win too. Well done Tom.
Strava Segment of the Week
Well done Sean Lee and I’m guessing based on the length of his run (over 25km) he may be preparing for a marathon, or else he just enjoys a long run. Sean did an out and back along the ‘infamous’ Portway, but also added on a few extra miles with a loop around Avonmouth.
