Weekly News

Richard Bloss Personality of the Year Award. A few years ago the club unfortunately lost one of its greatest personalities, Richard Bloss, after a short battle with cancer. Before he passed away he was presented with an award named in his honour, the Richard Bloss Personality of the Year.

The club awards night takes place in April and for this award we’d like you to choose the recipient.  All you need to do is write your nomination down on a slip of a paper and post it into the voting box which will be available every Monday and Thursday night. You and the person you nominate must be a member of the club.

Gloucester 20. Only one week to go now before the last championship event of the season. The Gloucester 20 is a 20 mile, 3-lap course, with two small laps per hill. Entry fee is £25 and according to the website you can also enter on the day (£2 surcharge).

Club Member of the Month. The junior Member of the Month is Abi Woodworth for her incredible resilience and hard work. She has had a few injuries this year but not let these deter her from competing and training. Our senior Member of the Month is Tamsin. Westbury Harriers would not be the club it is without her contribution. She does a huge amount of organising, encourages huge turnouts at competitions, such as the women’s team at the Gwent League and still has time to train and compete for the club. Many thanks Tamsin!

Twitter. Westbury Harriers has a Twitter Feed (no, it has nothing to do with birds!). If you want to quickly catch up with all that’s happening in the club then take a look. Link below: Twitter Feed

Membership. Please, please, please pay your membership renewal fees if they are due. This really does need to be completed before the end of March as the Westbury Harrier website will close after this date. This will then mean your membership details will not be transferred across to the new site resulting in additional effort on your part in re-registering. Membership fees may also increase after March so if you want to renew using the current rates, do so now.

Vacant Posts. The AGM is only a few weeks away so do please consider taking on one of our vacant positions.  Currently we are in need of a Press Officer, Club Development Officer, Volunteer Coordinator, Assistant Boys Manager and an Assistant Reception Group Coordinator. We would also like people to consider becoming involved in subcommittees for specific events. If interested please let the club secretary know (secretary@westburyharriers.co.uk) or speak to a committee member on a club night for further details.

Awards Night Trophies. Do you have an award that requires to be returned for the next recipient? If so, please bring along to the next training night so it can be engraved.

Cotswold Way Relay Sat 29th June. This is a great race along the scenic Cotswold Way, divided into 10 stages varying in distance from 7 to 12 miles. We need to know ASAP if you would be interested so we can decided if we will be entering one or two teams. Please respond to Eithne Noonan’s posting on Facebook if interested, ideally this week as the closing date for entries is 18th March.

Reception Group Leaders Needed. The reception group is in desperate need of more group leaders, to the point where we will have to start refusing new young runners, something nobody wants to happen. If you are a parent or club member who would be interested all you need to do is undertake the 1 day Leader in Fitness Course (LiRF) (which the club pays). Contact Jayne manager.girls@westburyharriers.co.uk or Emma reception@westburyharriers.co.uk if interested.

Yate Track. Just advance notice that the Yate track is due to have the top surface re-laid in April. This means it will be closed for up to 6-8 weeks. Watch this space for exact dates.

Congratulations. Well done to Alex Hamblin, 1st place in yesterday’s Rodway Easy Runner 10K. Also breaking news…..he set a new course record of 36:48. Many thanks to Emersons Green Running Club for hosting such a well organised event. Photo: Alex collects his prize.
