Christmas Training. It’s cold, dark and miserable outside, but that’s no excuse for skipping training in the run up to Christmas. The final Westbury Harrier formal club run will incorporate the Christmas Lights run and will take place on Monday 17th December. For those of you who have not done this run before, every group – adults and juniors – will enjoy a run which incorporates the festive Brailsford Lights (with time for a few photos) before returning to Coombe Dingle. Fancy dress is optional but encouraged!
This will be the final formal training session giving all you runners and group leaders a break over the festive holidays. This means there will be no efforts session on Thursday 21st December. Training will resume in 2019 on Monday 7th January. Club members will no doubt still be running over the Christmas period, please check Facebook as this is where any informal runs will be advertised.
London Marathon Club Draw. In the words of the National Lottery, you’ve got to be in it to win it! The club has a number of slots allocated for the London Marathon and instructions on how to apply and whether you are eligible will be posted shortly. However, the ballot will take place on the 10th December so make sure that you are at training when the draw takes place.
Efforts Session. After last weeks long intervals things are being mixed up a bit for this week. It’s a 2 set Medium Pyramid to look forward to, all under the expert guidance of Mike. This will consist of 1-2-3-2-1 minute efforts with half time recoveries and 90 seconds between sets.
Easyfundraising. Don’t forget you can raise funds for the club using the www.easyfundraising.co.uk. All you do is sign up to support Westbury Harriers at the link, then shop via the website or app as usual.
Christmas Meal Balances. Balances are still required for peoples Christmas meals after the Prom run on Thursday 3rd December. 2 courses cost £10.99 and 3 courses £13.99, monies to Sandra Bailey-gard. Those individuals are named on Facebook, posting dated 21 November 19
Recommendations. If you need ideas for a Christmas list (honestly, I’m not dropping hints) I can recommend the book, Faster Road Racing 5K to Half Marathon by Pete Pfitzinger and Philip Latter. This is a very comprehensive book covering nutrition, stretching routines, drills, science (Vo2, aerobic thresholds etc), case studies and training plans from a 5k all the way to a half marathon.
