Sunday 31st October
Westbury Harriers – Weekly News
Editors Piece
Unfortunately no Nightingale Nightmare race this year, although instead Richard Hughes organised the next best thing with a Halloween themed run around Leigh Woods, including a run up the horrendously steep Nightingale Valley. There were even cakes afterwards!
Club Intervals and Yate Track Sessions
As it’s the beginning of the month we are back to the hills for Thursday’s session. Most likely we will split into groups, depending on numbers
The suggested session for Yate Track on Tuesday will be posted on facebook. Don’t forget to pay your track fees for October too!
Training
A reminder that there won’t be a group 2/3 lunchtime session this coming Monday. Also there won’t be a group 5 run on Tuesday evening.
Hoodies and Club Vest
On Thursday evening at Coombe Dingle sports centre Tamsin will be bringing a selection of hoodies and club vests that people can try on for size before buying.
Run Together
The RunTogether site has been experiencing problems integrating social media accounts and you will now have to set up an individual account.
A few people have thought they booked onto runs this week and it has not actually gone through. There are some questions that have been added on RunTogether which you have to answer before you can move through to book and pay. There is an option ‘prefer not to say’ which you can select. You will always receive a confirmation email straight away to show your booking has been successful and it will show up in your app under my schedule.
Congratulations
Well done to Tim Synge who ran the Lulworth Cove trail marathon in a time just under 7 hours.
Some great running by lots of Westbury Harriers today, up at Longeaton for the BMAF XC relays. I’m sure there will be an update with all the results and plenty of photos on facebook soon. Here’s one photo to whet your appetite. The V65 Men pictured below, (Nigel Gates, David George and Mike Mewse)
Ben Rawlins had a good race in Spain yesterday – winning the U25 category in the World Triathlon Aquathlon Championships – a 750m swim, 5k run. Again, more details to follow in a full race report.
We also had the Gloucestershire Cross Country league taking place today at Cirencester. Apparently all the extra rain we’ve had over the last few days made it a particularly tough and muddy course. Well done to the U15 boys team, pictured below.
Strava Segment of the Week
Some great running by Dawni Stygall today who ventured out into Blaise and tackled some muddy trails with Bob for company. On route a couple of achievements including 2nd fast time on Strava segment Trym to Yelling Yins in a time of 1:11 and Trym Vally to Bell Barn Lane to Blaise in 4:44.
If you would like to be mentioned in the newsletter and you use Strava then don’t forget to add yourself to the Westbury Harrier Club section, then I’ll be able to give you a mention!
