Westbury Harriers – Weekly News

Editor’s Piece

I’ve noticed an increase in the reporting of fatalities out on the roads for both runners and cyclists. Many of us in the club like to mix up training with some cycling, if you do try and avoid the main roads and wear bright clothing. I also using flashing LED lights, even in the daytime.

If running try and avoid the roads completely. If you must then try and keep it to a minimum and aim to run in the direction of oncoming traffic, then you will be aware of approaching vehicles. Avoid running in dark clothing and if running at night or early morning/evening wear a fluorescent bib.

Mary’s Funeral

Mary Fullerton’s funeral is being live streamed from Clifton Cathedral from midday on Wednesday 5th May. The link to the live-streaming website is below.

On the day of the funeral a small group of the club, with support from the Fullerton family will be running to stand outside in Westbury Harrier club kit to say goodbye. If people would like to do this then please message Tamsin for the arrangements. She can be contacted via facebook messenger or e-mail ‘manager.women@westburyharriers.co.uk‘.

Club Intervals-A Mixed Bag!

I was very inconsistent last week so will need to manage my pacing. It’s a mixed bag so especially important to pace correctly this week. 2 x 45 seconds (45 sec recovery), 90 seconds (1 min recovery), 3 mins (1 min recovery 90 seconds (1 min recover) then 45 seconds. 90 seconds of recovery between the sets. Final 3 mins at the end.  Just a note: if running the track event on Friday it may make sense to give the session a miss and do an easy run with a few strides instead.

Congratulations

Well done to Ben Rawlins and Alex Hamblin (pictured below) who achieved a 1st and 2nd place respectively in the Hair of the Dog trail race. This was a new race held out near Chippenham, looks like it’s been given the thumbs up!

Westbury Harriers Track Meet 2

Looks like it being another busy track meeting for the club at the Jefferies Arena, Yate on the evening of Friday 30th April (7pm to 9pm). At the time of this going to press there are still a few places remaining for the 1500m, 3000m and 1 mile so book quickly to grab your place.

The 800m has been cancelled as there were too few entrants, I guess just too short for Westbury runners.

Bookings are made using the runtogether site (link below) and I look forward to seeing you on Friday.
