Westbury Harriers – Weekly News
I don’t usually recommend products for running but I’ve been so pleased with a recent Christmas present that I just have to share it with you. If I’m out on the trails I don’t normally take a phone because I’m worried it will stop working in the rain. I therefore put on my Christmas list a waterproof phone case from a company called Harrier Run Free. I’m especially impressed as not only is it fully waterproof but you can even operate the touch screen through the cover (useful when using downloaded maps) and it has a little window so you can take photos and selfies. They also do lot’s of other trail running kit that you may be interested in. https://harrierrunfree.co.uk
Yate Track Sessions and Thursday Intervals
Last Thursday because the weather was so awful we gave the field a miss. This coming Tuesday we hope to return to Coombe Dingle and run on the grass (weather permitting) doing last week’s advertised session. I can’t remember exactly what the session was so I’ll ask Vicky to put it on facebook.
Of course, if you run on the track you never have to worry about the conditions under foot (unless it snows!) Nicola’s suggested session for Tuesday is as follows:
The session will commence with dynamic walking stretches followed by 3 social laps. The intervals will then involve 7x300m with 100m jog recovery, 400m float, going into 4x600m with 200m jog.
We’ll finish off with 2 recovery laps and stretches.
Membership Renewals and Yate AC
Just another reminder that your club membership is due for renewal this month. Also, by joining Westbury Harriers, you can compete on the track (and in the field, if you want) for Yate & District Athletic Club for free. All you need to do is tick the Yate membership box in membership mojo when you go to renew.
Then, to compete for Yate, all you need to do is complete an affiliation form with them followed by an additional discipline form, due to recent EA changes. You can find the membership form and other discipline form below. When selecting membership type make sure you click ‘Westbury Harriers Associate Member – free’! https://membermojo.co.uk/yateac/joinus

Congratulations to this months senior winner, Rosie Hamilton-James. Rosie (pictured below) was nominated for her impressive performance at the South West County Championships coming first in the Under 20 category and second overall in the senior women’s race.
Our junior winner this month is Akira Bees (pictured below and also in watercolour, who knew Neil and Vincent van Goch shared such talent!). He was also nominated for his fantastic performance in the same championships winning a silver medal in his age group.

SW Cross Country Championships 2021, RNAS Merryfield.
Congratulations to our under 20s and senior ladies silver medalists at yesterday’s South West Cross Country Championship (Rosie Hamilton-James Catherine Treble, Tilly Spinney, Katie Hughes and Vicky Tester).
It was the first wet and muddy XC of the 2021/2022 season and the ladies fresh off the back of their tri-counties win were fabulous. It was great to see our U20s in the senior team for the first time and the masters ladies showing they have still got it
Rosie led the team home for Under 20 and in 2nd place in the senior race, Catherine Treble 11th (3rd V35), Tilly Spinney 12th (4th U20), 26th Katie Hughes (4th V45), 49th Vicky Tester, 58th Tamsin Elson Chick, 65th Emma Woodworth, 82nd Jayne Pemble.
Greg Hayward was our top male finisher and picked up a team bronze for Avon County U20s. In the MV60 category there were silver and bronze medals for Jerry Musselwhite and Mike Mewse.
Race report by Tamsin Elson Chick and Mike Mewse.

Ideas to Develop and Invest in the Club
The club committee is always open to new suggestions and ideas that can be used for development and investment as we exist to serve our members. We are therefore keen to hear from all our members about how they would like to see the club developed for the future. Geraint Torrington is our point of contact for club development and I’ll be happy to forward any ideas you have on to him.
Please check the Runtogether site for this weeks group runs including intervals, track and hill sessions (Richard’s hill session from last week pictured below). https://groups.runtogether.co.uk/WestburyHarriersRunningClub
Chest running lights and head torches are a useful tool for night running. But can I ask if you happen to be out and pass a fellow runner (or pedestrian)passing in the opposite direction you briefly shield your light so that they are not blinded.
