Westbury Harriers – Weekly News
I hope you are all enjoying the late summer bank holiday weekend? I’m looking forward to the Cleeve Road Relay’s tomorrow knowing that I can also enjoy a lie in on the Monday morning!
I’ve not run at Cleeve before because it always clashes with the Severn Bridge Half and 10k but this year I just fancied doing something a little different. It promises to be a great event and we have numerous teams in different age groups and abilities. Hopefully the weather will stay fine and post run and can enjoy a drink or two and catch-up with all our members.
Wednesday Water Tower Runs
Nothing new to report really, just an excuse for a photo from the Water Tower Run, this time from the Wednesday session.
Tuesday and Thursday Intervals
Yate track and Coombe Dingle Intervals will be posted on facebook nearer the time.
Well done to Audrey and Benoit running the Ciderthon last weekend. A half marathon with just as much cider drinking as running!
Eithne’s 100th Parkrun
An impressive 100th parkrun for Eithne this morning at Eastville Park, supported on route by number of Westbury members.
Avon Road Relays, Severn Bridge Half/10k and Green Man/Green Boy
Good luck to all the Westbury runners competing today in the Green Man or the Green Boy. The Green Man is a 45 mile ultra with just under 1000m of elevation and consists of a full clockwise loop of the Community Forest Path. The Green Man Ultra 30 (known as the Green Boy) has 29 miles to conquer and is a partial loop of the Community Forest Path. If you are running either event do let me know how you get on.
Tomorrow we have the Avon Road 5k Relays at Cleeve. We have some great teams running and individuals competing from almost every group in the club. Don’t forget to get there for 10:30 as the plan is to have a team photo taken before the racing starts at 11:00
And also on Sunday we have the Severn Bridge 10k and Half Marathons so good luck if you happen to be running along the M48 tomorrow morning (it’s closed to traffic by the way).
Club Charity Hash…On On!
Last week’s charity hash was a great success and a special thanks must go to Neil Miller for planning such a fiendish course with plenty of false trails, dead ends and switch backs to keep everybody on their toes. All the batons were eventually found including the cake baton meaning we could return to the club house for consumption of cake!
Gate money and cake sales meant the club collected £350 towards the chosen charity of the year, the Southmead Hospital Charity.
Thanks to Sarah Andrews for arranging the donation and everybody that helped on the day, such as setting up the cakes and clearing away at the end of the evening. Of course thanks also goes to everybody who baked or donated cakes and participated in the hash.
Monday Night Training – Return to Coombe Dingle.
The summer season at Blaise is over for another year. Having enjoyed running on the hottest Monday evening ever, in a torrential thunderstorm, up some brutal hills, and finishing off with Neil’s drinks and biscuits, we will be back at Coombe Dingle on Monday 5 September.
The various groups will continue to meet at the same times as before, Groups 1, 2, 3, 4 and 6 at 6:30pm, Group 5 at 7pm. We will try and get back into Blaise or other local off road locations for as long as we can, but as the nights draw in we will increasingly return to the roads.
The 6pm Group 3 is going to continue from Blaise for a few more weeks, the leaders of that group will let runners know when they return to Coombe Dingle.
Please can all runners ensure that they arrive in good time to start at the advertised time.
There will be no organised groups running on Bank Holiday Monday (although informal runs may be advertised on facebook).

Ben Wood currently tops the lead board for the men but close behind we have Trevor Fitsall, and as a prior Club Champion he has plenty of experience so should not be discounted.
