Tamsin’s Monday 3rd July Lunchtime Group

On Monday 3rd July the Monday lunchtime group will be offering an interval style session suitable for all abilities due to the Westbury wipeout in the evening – as no adult training that evening. Meeting point will be White Tree Roundabout at 12 pm

Westbury Wipeout – Monday 3rd July

Please remember we won’t be having any senior training on the evening of the Westbury Wipeout (although there’s a lunchtime group, see above for details).

If you, family or friends are able to volunteer on the night that would be appreciated. If I could ask you to please complete Alastair’s volunteering form that will help us to plan ahead of the event. The link is below. https://tinyurl.com/epn3p2bz

Nailsea Running Club ‘Beer and Banger 10k’ Friday 30th June

The ‘Beer and Banger 10k’, hosted by Nailsea Running Club, is a popular race consisting of a two lap route along quiet lanes on the outskirts of Nailsea.  It does have a sting in the tail with a sly, but fortunately short climb before the first water stop. As a two lap race it certainly feels a lot steeper the second time around! As an added bonus all runners are rewarded at the finish with a delicious sausage in a bun and refreshing pint, all included in the entry fee.

In pervious years the event has been blessed with blue skies and sunshine but perhaps a little too hot for running, although perfect conditions for a post-race BBQ.  This year conditions were a little different with overcast skies, a fine drizzle and cooler temperatures, better for running, but not ideal for the BBQ.

With so many events taking place this month and lot’s of tired legs within the club there were fewer Westbury Harriers running as in previous years. But it was all about quality and not quantity with some stunning performances and a few podium places too.

On the night first place went to Will Fuller from Weston Athletic Club in an impressive time of 33:37. First lady to cross the finishing line was Katy Sutcliffe in in a similarly stunning time of 41:24.

Alec Sampson was the first Westbury Harrier to finish and took home both an age group category win and third place overall in a time of 36:14. The age group and 3rd place result was also mirrored by Becky Lee for the women, finishing in a time of 42:33.

Other Westbury results are as follows, Ian Gawinowski 8th 39:27 (achieving a 10k PB), Benoit Lepron 21st 44:28, Elaine Hughes 42nd 46:38, Heidi Andrews 54th 48:02, Sandra Williams 64th 49:07, Mark Canwell 77th 52:44

Sri Chinmoy 2 miler (Club Championship) 27th June 23

On Tuesday evening we had a massive turnout for the  Sri Chinmoy 2 mile Race at Eastville Park, no doubt helped by the fact it was a club championship race.  Although short, it was fast and furious, with some very strong performances. Perhaps it was the added incentive of club championship points adding to the competitiveness.

In first place was David Mackintosh from Bellahousten Harriers in an astonishingly fast time of 10:07, very impressive considering it’s not a flat course. First place woman was Gabriela Ritter Sharrat (Bristol and West) in 12:20.

First place Westbury Harrier (and claiming 30 club champ points) was Alec Sampson in 11:14 and Tamsin Chick (12:59) achieving max club champ points for the ladies completion. Full results are in the link below. https://tinyurl.com/4stdpyvy
