Junior Member of the Month. Laura Chance won both the 800m and 1500m in the Avon Championships in the summer. She has continued her excellent form and was 3rd in the Cardiff Cross Challenge. Laura trains and races with great intensity – an inspiration to those around her. Well done on winning.

Senior Member of the Month. Ewan Cameron. For helping out with the Couch to 5K course and  posting some really encouraging messages on our Facebook page. He also trains regularly and enjoys competing for the club, such as in parkruns and other races.

Club Championship Races. I only noticed yesterday that entries for the Riverbank Rollick were open and almost up to 500 entrants already.  This is a multi terrain event of approximately 10 miles and part of our club championship series. It will be held on Sunday 12th January. Update. This is now full, but do check to see if there is a waiting list.

Club Supper. Will be at the Black Swan (Mucky Duck) on Monday 18th November. Meat or veggie lasagne with garlic bread. £6 to be payable before the night this time.

Thursday Efforts. Vicky tells me the planned session involves 5 sets of 30/40/50/60 with half the effort time for recovery. Obviously be prepared for the road if the field is too soggy for running. We don’t want to upset the groundskeeper!

Congratulations.
Well done to Jeni Stevenson who was competing in the World Biathle Championships in Florida. Jeni achieved silver in her age group, impressive stuff.

As we’re talking all things over the pond, today we have Nick Clay, Chris McCabe and Tom Grange running the New York City Marathon. Good luck, I hope it all goes well.

And a  little closer to home, last week we had some impressive running in the Pomphrey 5K series. Well done to Bridget Belfourd (3rd lady), Oli Beale (1st M40) and Lucy Richens (1st W35). I hear it was tins of luxury biscuits for all.

Interesting Fact of the Week
The fastest runner in the world is the Jamaican sprinter Usain Bolt. He holds the world record in the 100-meter dash (9.58 seconds) and the 200-meter dash (19.19 seconds). His maximum recorded speed is 44.72 km/h (27.8 mph).
