Move Up Monday: First Monday of the month can mean only one thing, ‘Move Up Monday’. If you fancy stepping up to the next group today is a good day to try it.
Club Championship 5k Towpath Series. It always feels like summer is coming to an end when I report the final towpath race of the series. Anyway, on a more positive note we do have just a 5k race to look forward to this time instead of the normal 10k. Race starts at 7:30 this Friday (Friday 9th August). You can register on the night.
Training Tip of the Week (contributed by Jeni Stevenson)
Race Sparingly: For many runners, racing is their raison d’etre – the sole reason that they run at all. For others, races serve as an ideal focus point for their training miles. Whichever category you fall into, racing too often will result in staleness, injury or illness. Races are far more demanding than training runs; the adrenaline flows, your competitive instincts take over and you strive for a particular time or to beat a rival. All good stuff – but it is important to remember that this extra effort takes more out of you than training, both physically and mentally, so limit your races to a select few and to avoid breakdown.
Race Calendar. Vicky has been very busy updating the race calendar. It can be found by logging on to the Westbury website, just click on Events which is shown on the black banner. You can also filter by Race Championships, Club Events, Social and Races. If you would like an event listed, just let me know, I’ll then have it added.
Congratulations.
Fantastic running by Eithne winning 2nd V60 lady and also the oldest female prize in the Islay half marathon. Apparently all runners received sandwiches and a wee dram of Ardbeg whisky afterwards (ideal for post race recovery). Eithne pictured below, accompanied by her son and daughter.
Ben Rawlings celebrated a gold medal win in Romania after representing Great Britain at the European Aquathlon Championships. Special mention must also go to Mike Mewse who has coached him towards this great achievement.
Water Tower Run
Chris often tells me he feels downtrodden at times, I understand why now. Chris being put in his place at a recent Saturday Water Tower run. These social runs meet every Saturday, from the Water Tower on the Downs at 9:00.
Sunday Social Cycle
You may be forgiven for thinking the Tour de France took a detour to Clevedon yesterday. In fact it was a bunch of runners on bikes who headed to the seafront for an obligatory coffee and cake stop.
