Special Training Session with English 10K Champion On Thursday 18th July we have an extra special training session for you all. Special guest, Dan Studley will be leading the training session and share some of his training tips.  Dan is an accomplished distance runner, representing England on numerous occasions, home and abroad. He become the English 10K champion in 2015, winning in Leeds in a time of 29:43.  Last year he also ran for Team GB in the World Half Marathon Championships in Valencia (along with a few Westbury runners).

This special session is suitable for everyone, just bring normal running shoes and kit. Sign in with your name and club, paying the £2 track entry fee. Mike Mewse and Dan Studley will greet everybody in the club house at 6:45. There will also be the opportunity to question Dan in a short Q&A session. Finish at about 8pm.

GWR Towpath Series 10k. My final reminder that the Mob Match takes place on Friday 19th July. Just come along and enjoy the run because the Friday is primarily about numbers. If there are plenty of us and we all push to the front of the start line, we can win by preventing any other club getting past! I’m only kidding, but it is a numbers game, so the more of us the better chance of success. I’m sure a few of us will also head over to the Cottage Inn afterwards for a beer or two, so why not make a social night of it as well?

Fact of the Week. Apparently runners dressed in red are more likely to win events than runners wearing any other colour. Well, guess I’ll be joining Bristol and West!

Training Tip of the Week Regular flexibility training is one sure-fire way to ward off muscle pulls and strains. The repetitive nature of running causes muscles to shorten and tighten – which flexibility training will prevent. Ideally, stretch all the major leg muscles after every session but if that proves too time consuming, focus on 10 minutes quality stretching twice a week after your run. Think of it as training that will enhance your running and keep you running long-term, rather than a chore that is taking up valuable running time. Come along on a Thursday evening to Westbury training, 7pm for some good drills.

Well done to Tony Rudd, the Derreck’s (Jack, Ian & Nicola) Carol Fee and Ann Lovell who were racing last week in the Thornbury 10k, photographed below.

Congratulations to Chris Lowe who was running the Piece of Cake Trail Marathon near Church Stretton. That was a very impressive bit of bling around your neck!

Finally, a mention to Tim Clothier, so you better be reading this! Tim went sub 19mins (a PB) at the Severn Bridge Parkrun on Saturday. Well done.
