Weekly News

Summer Garden Lunch Party.  Just a quick reminder that the WH Summer Garden Party will be taking place on Sunday 7th July, from noon. Make a note of it in your diary and more details will follow.

Bristol Half Marathon. Details of discounted entries, via the club, will be published soon.

Avon County Road Relays. And one more date for your diaries. The Avon County Road Relays will be taking place at Cleeve on the Bank Holiday, Sunday 25th August. The club has done very well in the past and Mike Mewse will be looking for runners in the Senior Men, V40, V50 and V60 categories. It is a great social event and only up the road (near Yatton and Backwell). I’ll be keeping my fingers firmly crossed for fine weather.

Club Survey. Many thanks to everybody that completed the club survey recently. We will be collating the responses and your feedback will be used to improve the club. You may remember that all those who entered had the opportunity of winning club kit, vouchers, sports massages etc. Well, the draw has taken place with names randomly picked and independently verified by Tamsin’s daughter. Winners are Rosie Scott, Sophie Voller and Chris Palmer. You will be contacted about your prizes, which also include a bottle of wine.

Yate Track. Many thanks to Jason Michael, who’s confirmed the resurfacing work at Yate track is now all complete. On Tuesday 18th June, after the Yate and District club training session, they will have cake and chips (a great combo!) to celebrate everyone’s return.

There’s also the opportunity to try out the new surface at the Bristol and West Fast 5000’s. This takes place on the evening of Saturday 27th July. Graded 5000m track races are taking place with pacemakers in every race. Bar, food and music all evening make it a great event. The event will also host the Avon County 5000m Championships, so you could even become a champ winner! A few Harriers’ have already signed up including myself and Mike Mewse so you’ll have some company.

GWR Towpath Series 10k. Race 3 of the series takes place on Friday 5th July. Then the Mob Match follows, on Friday 19th July and the race 5, the last in the series (5K only) on Friday 9th August. Just a tip from me, watch out for any Harriers’ that run along in stealth mode, then fly past as you approach the finishing straight.

Pomphrey 5k. The course is a single loop, entirely on the Avon Cycleway, adjacent to Pomphrey Pavillon. On line entires are only £5, £1 more on the night. The event on Tuesday 25th June incorporates an open mob match for any athletic or running club.

Keynsham 10k. Organised by the Bitton Road Runners, this event starts from The Chocolate Quarter, Keynsham on Sunday 6th October. This one is filling up fast already so don’t hang about in entering.

I won’t be joining you as I’ll be running just a tad further. If you fancy running an off-road marathon instead, from Salisbury to Winchester, how about the Clarendon Marathon? https://www.clarendon-marathon.co.uk

We had winners in a range of age categories at the Chew Valley 10K on the 9th June, although they are all young at heart.  In ‘vintage’ order we had Anthony Balance, 1st MV55 42:14, then Catherine Treble, 1st F35 (3rd overall female) 40:35 and 5 seconds ahead Rosie Hamilton-James, 1st U20 (2nd female overall).
