Editor’s Piece
I’ve had a few socially-distanced enjoyable runs and cycle rides with individual friends in the club over the last couple of weeks. Since the 28th May the restrictions have eased slightly meaning we can now exercise outdoors in groups of up to 6 people, as long as social distancing takes place.
Unfortunately I think it will still be some time before normal competitions can resume. For example, I recently read that October’s Cardiff Half Marathon has been postponed until March 2021 which places a level of uncertainly on all events this year.
Fortunately we still have virtual challenges that can keep us amused in the meantime.

Westbury Harriers Website
Great news, our new look improved website is live! Lot’s of effort has gone into improving the feel and content of the site and I hope you all approve. The website was constructed with professional support but for small changes we have a new website manager, so a big thank-you to Alastair for taking on the role. www.wesburyharriers.co.uk
Treasure Hunt
I’ve selected Judy as this weeks winner, just because I’ve never seen her looking so threatening! Obviously the answer to the play was ‘Look Back in Anger’.
A reminder of last week’s ’somethings’ below, theme was musical, play or pantomime.
- Something that’s crooked or bends.
- Something that’s circular.
- Something yellow.
- Something high.
- Something that’s old.
- Something beginning with ‘B’
- Something about lockdown that you’ll remember for the rest of your life!

Member of the Month Winners
This month I’m pleased to announce we have two winners in the senior category.
Sarah (aka the Selfie Queen) is our winner for introducing and setting the ‘somethings’ in our weekly Treasure Hunt. Sarah also provides positive feedback and even correctly guesses correctly some of the picture themes contributions on Facebook. Sarah is also a very keen runner so a worthy winner just for her dedication.
We also have Alex who’s been very busy managing our Westbury Harrier Isolation Challenge Series on Strava. This is no easy feat as for each challenge he has to come up with something new and inventive. He also must keep the Magic Spreadsheet up to date with the latest results, and this involves all the result being processed though a Cray supercomputer.
Finally, we have our junior winner. Congratulations to Josh M who’s been getting out and regularly running. He’s also fully embraced Alex’s ISO Series and taken on every challenge to date.
Remember, we do need your contributions to make MotM a success. It has never been about just winning races but your contribution, and that may involve supporting the club, working behind the scenes or simply just getting outside and running.
The committee will happily review all nominations, especially for our younger athletes which we tend to lack, perhaps suggestions from parents? If your son or daughter has done something extra special that is running related then please let us know.
MotM nominations are discussed the first Friday of the month. Send suggestions to member.of.the.month@westburyharriers.co.uk.
Westbury Harriers ISO Challenge 2020: 1 mile (No Limits!) extended – Sponsored by Up and Running!
I am going to extend the 1 mile no limit until Thursday (11th June) in case anyone fancies another go or hasn’t entered yet. I’ve updated the results tonight.
Don’t forget the BMAF Virtual 5k relays. There will be an identical ISO challenge at the same time, so anyone can enter the ISO challenge and all over 35s can enter both.
There are also prizes up for grabs!
Alex
Congratulations
To Chris and Trudi who both ran not 5 miles, not even 50K but an amazing 50 miles! They were both taking part in the 12 Churches, a long distance circular trail run that at its most southerly point reaches Congresbury. Understandably they are both going to be taking it easy over the next few days!
Strava Results of the Week…
Mike H is a new convert to Strava which generally means all those early runs result in Personal Records (PRs) 🤣. But I’m being disingenuous to Mike as the times he achieved on Strava segment ‘Portway Climb’ 1:08 and ‘Portway 1k east’ 4:21 are not to be sniffed at! The crown on the latter segment is held by WH Rosie, in a time of 3:09.
