After months of anticipation Westbury’s Reception Co-ordinator, Warren Pickles, has been given the go-ahead to bring a junior parkrun to Kings Weston this summer.
The weekly 2K run, for children aged between 4 and 14, will not only be a great opportunity for Westbury’s juniors to run against the clock locally on a regular basis, but will also encourage other youngsters among the Shirehampton, Avonmouth and Lawrence Weston communities to get involved with the club.
Can you help as a volunteer?
Now, to make the event happen, Warren needs volunteers to help, in particular:
- Core event team – to direct and deliver the event once every six weeks or so (or more regularly, if desired). You will need three to four hours the week of your ‘turn’ – one to two hours during the week to deal with volunteer emails and the roster, and then one to two hours on Sunday morning delivering the run and processing the results. You will need to undergo a DBS check, but otherwise, all training and equipment is provided. No previous experience required, just enthusiasm for running – it is all fairly simple to do!
- Regular volunteers – to help on a more informal basis when available. You just need to be registered with parkrun as a runner.
Please get in touch with Warren at firstname.lastname@example.org if you think you can help in either capacity, or would like more information about the event.
