Westbury Harriers – Weekly News

Editors Piece

This newsletter prides itself on being factual correct and campaigns against the publication of fake news. Unfortunately, and occasionally errors do occur and as I follow the Independent Press Standard Organisation rules any complaints brought to my attention will be corrected and clarified.

Richard Hughes ran the Lisbon Half Marathon and his actual chip finishing time was 01:41:39 (which I incorrectly reported last week), coming 28th in the M60 age category.

Last week I’d been watching a lot of athletics on the telly. This sparked my interest is great athletes of the past and I discovered that Karl Marx’s wife, Onya, was a great olympic track runner. In fact to this very day we honour her contribution and name her at the start of every race!*

Just a couple of important reminders for you. We have our Annual General Meeting today at 6:45pm via Zoom. If you’ve not had the details please e-mail myself or secretary@westburyharriers.co.uk and we can pass on all the information you need to log on.

The second reminder is to consider applying for the Men’s and/or Men’s Master’s Team Manager roles. These posts are both currently vacant and if the club continues to compete in events they do need to be urgently filled. The club will provide support and help.

Finally, last week I had plenty of contributions from Tamsin’s marvellous ladies but nothing from the chaps. Come on blokes, you can do better and let’s have some race or training updates for next week!

Pictured below, the Saturday Water Tower runners pause for one last photo stop before one group heads off to do road, the other to hit some muddy trails.

Tuesday Running Session at Yate Track and Thursday Intervals

The running session at Yate Track will be advertised nearer the time on facebook.

For Thursday we plan to be back on the field (unless it’s really wet and muddy) 3 sets of 4 x 90 seconds, 45 second recoveries, 2 minute recoveries between sets. Option to drop a set or ease off the pace.

Lacing Guide

Somebody told me they were having big toe issues and losing nails the other day. I spotted this lacing guide on the internet which may help to alleviate the problem and be of interest to club member.

Renewal Reminder and Yate and District Membership

Thank you to everyone who has renewed their membership so far. If you haven’t renewed your membership, can you please ensure that this is done before 31st March 2023 – next Friday!

If you have said that you want to compete in track events, you will have received an email with information about how to join our partner Club, Yate and District AC. The email attaches a form which needs to be completed and returned to membership@westburyharriers.co.uk. For ease, this form has been attached to the Facebook posting from yesterday. Unless this form is returned, you will not be able to compete for Yate and District AC. Can I please encourage everyone to return the form!

Any questions, please message me or comment on the facebook post or e-mail membership@westburyharriers.co.uk

Club Drop-In Session – Monday 27th March

Dear Runners, Parents and Volunteers,

The club will be hosting an informal drop-in session on Monday 27th March in the meeting room at Coombe Dingle Sports Complex between 6pm-8.30pm.

The purpose is to invite people to give their feedback and ideas on how the club can improve, develop and spend resources. There will be committee members who you can talk with and places where you can jot down your suggestions.

The meeting room is upstairs in the cricket pavilion opposite the bar.

We hope you can spare 5-10 mins that evening to pop along.
