Westbury Harriers Weekly News

Hi everyone,

Welcome to this weeks newsletter, I hope everyone is enjoying the start to 2026 and managing to keep warm and relatively dry in the recent weather we’ve been experiencing!

I feel we had a lucky escape at Prom on Thursday with no snow or wind as predicted and just the smallest amount of rain – phew!

In this week’s newsletter:

  1. Club notices
  2. Training this week
  3. Race reports / results
  4. Upcoming races

1. CLUB NOTICES

JANUARY: BRING A FRIEND TO TRAINING

Throughout January we encourage you to drag a friend along to experience the joy of group running.

We always welcome new runners who are thinking about joining the club. They can try us for a maximum of three sessions before deciding whether to commit to joining us. It is important that they create a Run Together account and book on to a session through that in the same way that members do. This ensures that we have all of the medical and emergency contact information we need to ensure runners have a safe and enjoyable experience.

CLUB KIT

Membermojo store is now updated with new vest stock. Junior sizes now available.

The championships is being held this year in Sedgefield, Co Durham on Saturday 21st February 2026. You can enter yourself here. Entries close on 6th Feb 2026. No late entries are accepted. Some team managers may do a club entry – await details from your specific team manager around entry and arrangements.

Please let your team manager know if you are planning on running.

This is a championship event and you can claim back the race entry fee and some monies towards travel expenses from the club here.

The National XC rotates location around the country each year. Due to the location of this year’s event we do need to plan ahead in terms of logistics. So please contact your team manager as soon as practical to assist them in the organisation. This event is suitable for all club runners.

Members of the Month:

3. RACE RESULTS/REPORTS

Ladies SW XC report

Congratulations to our ladies squad at yesterday’s South West Cross Country Championships at RNAS Merryfield. A beautiful crisp and cold morning saw the course less muddy than in previous years. Everyone ran really strongly over the tough 7km course. We unfortunately did not have enough for a complete team. However there were age group and county teams to score for at this event.

Katie Hughes 20th (3rd V45 and part of the silver medal Avon county team), Laura Chance 22nd (6th U20), Katie Ramsden 57th.

Valencia 10k

Rosie Hamilton – James ran an impressive PB today in Valencia (bet the weather was much nicer than here!) she was 83rd in a top class field with a time of 33.55! Amazing – well done Rosie!

4. UPCOMING RACES / CLUB CHAMPS

A reminder that we have an events calendar on our website where you can keep track of dates for training, events and races.https://westburyharriers.co.uk/events/events-calendar/

And club champ races here: Club Championship – Westbury Harriers

REMINDER OF GWENT LEAGUE DATES

This is our main cross-country team event. Suitable for all club members, all ages, all abilities. Everyone scores for the team, individually and for their age group. We want FULL teams in each age group. Cost is £5 + admin fee per race, payable via RunTogether. Running can be quite an individual sport, but this is really where it comes together as a team and a club with a great atmosphere. Do come and give a Gwent League a go, whether you can do one race in the season, or all five, whatever your contribution, it really does help.

Saturday, February 7th – Gwent league, Chepstow Race Course
Saturday, February 28th – Gwent League,  Parc Bryn Bach

Other club races:

Sunday 18th January: Riverbank Rollick (Club Champs race) – Thornbury Running Club: https://www.thornburyrunningclub.co.uk/trc-races/riverbank-rollick/
