Westbury Harriers – Weekly News

Editors Piece

Well, that’s it! Christmas and New Year celebrations already seem a distant memory and the first week back at work was a real bore! It’s now time to set those New Year’s resolutions and mine are all about preparing for the Lisbon Half Marathon in March. I’m going to cut back on the booze, no more snacking on Tunnock tea cakes, and at least once a week some strength and core conditioning.  Not sure how long these resolutions will last, only time will tell!

PS, I’ll let you into a little secret, as a write the newsletter I’m tucking into a tea cake. I can’t help myself, they’re as addictive as crack cocaine!

Tuesday Running at Yate Track and Thursday Intervals

Track session will be posted to facebook.

For Thursday the plan is to be on the field (although check facebook nearer the time, just in case we need to relocate to the road). If we are on the grass it will be a one 5 minute interval, 90 second recovery, then 5 x 2 minutes with 1 minute recover then another 5 minute interval. There will be the option to drop 5 minutes to 4 minutes.

Nationality Details and Membership Mojo

Could I ask everybody to go into Membership Mojo and update their nationality status please? The reason behind this is because for 2023 England Athletics need to register foreign athletes that compete in competitions. The club will deal with all the administration, we just need you to update your details on Mojo. I’ve just done mine and provided a screenshot to help. https://membermojo.co.uk/

Member of the Month Winners

Congratulations to our senior winner this month, Alastair Blackwood.  Alastair (pictured below) was nominated for his commitment and hard work in making the Gwent League event at Blaise such a success. He worked tirelessly in managing and collating all the volunteers during a very long, and hectic day.

The junior award goes to Kara Mitchell. Kara is a Year 6 runner and was nominated for her endless enthusiasm and dedication in the Gwent and Gloucester Cross Country Leagues.

Well done to you both, Up and Running vouchers will be on there way to you soon.

Wednesday Hills

Pictured below, Richard’s hills group experience some extreme altitude on their hill training session. If you enjoy going up and up then they meet every Wednesday lunchtime, booking via the RunTogether app.

Run Leaders

We are always keen to hear from members that are keen to become Run Leaders, but this is especially true for those in the club that would like to support Group 6.  We are very short of leaders for this group so it would be fantastic if you could help occasionally.  You don’t need to be a speedy runner, just have plenty of enthusiasm. I would encourage you to volunteer as it’s a very rewarding experience and Mark Andrews (Group 3 and 4 Run Leader) is happy to share his own experiences with you. The course is straight forward and the club will cover the costs, just let me, Mark or any other Run Leader know if  interested.

School SW XC Volunteers Needed

The South West Schools Cross Country will take place on Saturday 4th February at Blaise Castle estate. We are looking for volunteers to support this event, and help from club members, family and friends would be very much appreciated. If you’re available to help please let me know, I’ll then pass your details on to Neil Miller.

2023 Running Events

I’ve spend the afternoon updating the events section below but there’s bound to be something I’ve missed. If there’s a running event you think would be of interest to our members please let me know.

Gloucester County XC Championships

Well done to Henry (pictured below) who was running in the XC Championships today coming 4th in the U15 category on a challenging course.
