Westbury Harriers – Weekly News

Editors Piece

Good luck to everyone running tomorrow at Cleeve in the Avon Road Relays.

We’ve got teams in every age group from under 20’s right up to V65+ for both the men and women. In some cases the age group teams are so strong we have A, B and C teams too!

If anyone is spectating and could help marshal (as there is a big number of team entries) it would be appreciated. This year the race organisers are looking for some additional marshals along the main road – which is the last kilometre into the finish. Let me know if you can help. There is a marshal briefing at 10am at the cricket pavilion.

Tuesday Running Session at Yate Track and Thursday Intervals

Tuesday session at Yate Track will be published on facebook.

Thursday at Coombe Dingle: HITT style session, details will be posted on facebook nearer the time.

It’s going to be a curry, rice, poppadoms and chutney, but please state if you want the vegetarian option.

Avon Road Relays

You should have all received an e-mail from Tamsin with details of tomorrow’s relay at Cleeve including teams and which leg you’re running. If you’ve not had it do check your spam e-mail first, otherwise let me know and I’ll forward on the details.

2023 Charity Run

Many thanks to everyone that baked cakes, helped with the event, donated and ran on the night. We had a huge turnout and an amazing spread of cakes. All the donations will go to this years charity, Shine Cancer Support. A charity which supports those in their 20s, 30s, and 40s, who experience a cancer diagnosis. Shine is the only charity supporting this age group – one which is largely forgotten in cancer care.

If you were unable to attend the run don’t be disappointed because you can still donate using the just giving link below. https://tinyurl.com/4j2vbej2

Club Volunteers BBQ

A ‘thank you’ BBQ was arranged last Sunday to show our appreciation for the club’s many volunteers. They all do a fabulous job in so many different way to contribute to the club.  A slight downpour caused a huddle under a tree but that soon passed. Many thanks to Neil Miller, Lizzy Smith and Mike Hopkins for organising.

Lightening Bolt 10K

There were 12 runners from the club at the lightening bolt 10k at Chippenham last weekend.

A good turnout from the club and it’s worth mentioning that decent PBs were gained by Will Massey – 32:37, Oli Beale – 32.53, Alec Sampson – 35:15  and Steve Clayson – 36:54.

Plus the usual strong run of course from Alex Hamblin in 34:14.

Strava Segment of the Week

Well done to Josh Daly, up in Edinburgh for his morning Parkrun. Josh set his best estimated 2 mile effort with a time of 11:05 and also achieved a PR on Strava segment Run like a gazelle in 29 seconds.
