Membership Renewals

Slightly late to communicate about renewals but there is a good reason. We have implemented a new system for our club membership fees and there has been much tinkering and testing in the background. Now that it is all complete, renewals can now be paid. A few have already done so (and hopefully had positive experiences – let us know if not).

Please note, until you have renewed, you will not have access to all member services on the website, including Club Championships.
Payment is via the Website and not by cash or cheque. Annual Membership from January to end of December 2020. The costs are as follows:

  • Seniors £40
  • Juniors and Students £25
  • Appointed Life Members with EA £15
  • Second Claim £10
  • Family (2 adults and up to 2 Juniors) £105
  • Academy (Age 8-10/11, Y3-Y6) £40 (Inc subs)

These subs were due at the start of the Academic year, September to August.

Using the Westbury Harriers Website as before, click to renew and you will be asked for your email address and password to gain access to the club website.
The details that we hold for you will appear, please update/amend anything that requires it, this information is used to renew your England Athletics affiliation and could affect your ability to race if incorrect. Follow on to options for renewal and you will be directed to an external system, Member Mojo and asked to enter your email address again. From this point, you will be shown renewals that you are eligible for. Payment is via PayPal either with an account or debit/credit card.

If you are wanting to renew for someone other than yourself, this year only you will need to use the email address used in previous years to get access but you can then update it (the old system did not allow duplicate email addresses the new one does!). Once you have renewed you can then access other members of your family through one email address if you update your records to this effect.

Family memberships are under review, with proposals being prepared for the AGM in April. Until that time, the current Family Membership can be purchased. If you had a family membership in 2019, your family members will be visible at time of renewal under the email address of one adult. If there are queries, please inform the Membership Secretary.

Thanks goes to Mike H for getting all the data into the new system, it was no small task!

Club Supper

The first for 2020 will be on Monday 20th January, 8pm at the Black Swan. You should have all informed Lou and paid your dues by now. See you all Monday night.

Thursday Efforts

Interval Training this Thursday will led by Katie and Vicky and will see a return to the Glenavon Loop. For those who have not run it before it is a 610m Road Loop in a peaceful corner of Sneyd Park. There will be two training options – either a traditional timed loop session with runners completing 8,7 or 6 loops, with a 60-90 second recovery between loops, or a “Meet and Greet“ Session which involves a 300m effort followed by a 300m jog recovery. Both great sessions do consider giving it a go if you are not a Thursday regular!

As Glenavon is a good mile from Coombe Dingle we will aim to leave promptly at 7.05 and we envisage the session will finish after a cool down and stretch back at Coombe Dingle at 8.15.
As we are on the road don’t forget your high vis clothing.

Social Runs

Wednesday Evening Water Tower Group. In case you don’t know there is a group that regular meets at the Water Tower on the Downs most Wednesday evenings at 7pm. The run normally has half a dozen or so runners from groups 2 to 4 and routes include the Portway, Clifton and the docks. Distance varies, but is normally between 7-9 miles. Just check Facebook for details and to confirm attendance.

Congratulations

Good luck to Vicky and Chris P who are both running the Speedway 10K on Sunday. The Speedway Series is held just over the bridge (in fact they almost run underneath it), in Chepstow. It’s a fast and flat course, the idea being it is perfect to achieve a PB!

Good luck to all those running in the Avon Schools XC. I hope you all achieve some fantastic results.

With fine weather forecast for the Sunday, I hope all the Westbury Runners at the Doynton Hard Half Marathon do well. This year I believe we have both Alan and Liz representing the club. Anyone else?

And another congratulations, although this one is not race related. You may know Chris B from  the Saturday Water Tower runs, or Monday night training, he can often be found leading group 1. Well, he has know reached the ripe old age of 50! Happy Birthday Chris! I would have thought old age would have slowed you down but you seem to be getting quicker.
Chris (photographed below), always living life on the edge!

Interesting Running Fact of the Week

The record for most marathons run on consecutive days is 365! Belgian runner Stefaan Engels, knows as the “Marathon Man” set the record in 2011, aged 49!
