Weekly News

Gwent League Blaise Castle. A big thank-you to everyone who contributed to the success of Saturdays Gwent League at Blaise Castle. From people on car parking duty, course set-up, marshals, officials, announcers, course clear down and those who worked behind the scenes.  Well done all!

Not another tea break Neil. Don’t you have a Gwent League to organise!

Sorry Robyn, no time for a cool down. You still have volunteers to coordinate!

London Marathon Ballot. The draw for the London marathon club places will take place TODAY! We have 3 club places, one of which was kindly donated by Yate. The draw we be for club members who have been rejected from the ballot for the 2020 marathon and priority in the draw will go to those members who have been unsuccessful in the 2 previous club draws.

Full instructions were provided in last week’s Weekly News but you should have already put your request in by now. Good luck in the draw tonight.

Club Championship Event- Weston Prom. The next club championship is the Weston Prom on Thursday 19th December.  It’s a blast along Weston promenade and back, not one I’ve done before so it will be new to me.

Membership Data. We will shortly be migrating club membership data across to a new system. This new system will be more user friendly and be an improvement for both members and the club administrators. For the data transfer to be a success can I please ask you go into the website and check the details in the User Profile area. If they are incorrect please update them this week. http://westburyharriers.co.uk/wp-login.php

Club Supper. The next club supper night is Monday 16th December (after the Brailsford Lights run) and this time we have a veggie or meat curry, plus the pub have promised it will be hot (by which I mean in temperature, not on the Scoville scale!) £6 to be payable to Louise this Monday, or by bank transfer by the 11th December.

Congratulations.

Well done to everybody running in the Gwent at Blaise.  We were all blessed with fine and dry weather conditions. It wasn’t too muddy either, although it seems some of you prefer it when it is! Some fantastic results which I’m sure will be fully covered in the next race round-up report.

And today (Sunday) we have the Weston Christmas Cracker. I’m looking forward to seeing a few festive costumes on facebook later.  Good luck to all the Westbury runners taking part.

Interesting Running Fact of the Week. According to legend, when the Greeks defeated the Persians in battle in 490 BC, soldier Pheidippides ran approximately 25 miles)  from Marathon, Greece, to Athens to deliver the news. Once he arrived he shouted, “Rejoice, we are victorious,” and then promptly died. The distance he ran became the distance of the modern marathon, 26.2 miles. Source: factretriever.com
