Blaise Gwent League Volunteers. On Saturday 7th December we have our home event at Blaise Castle, starting from the club house. To make this event a success we need lots of volunteers, either club members, friends, or family, they can all help.

If you can offer assistance throughout the day, that’s great. If you plan to race, or have other commitments then your presence in the morning or afternoon would be greatly appreciated.  There will lots of different roles available, from setting up the course in the morning, marshalling, helping with car parking, to packing the course away at the end of the day.

Course set up will be in the morning. Then the first race commences at 11:30 with the U11 girls and continues to 12:40 with the U15 boys. From 13:00 we have the senior women and the last race takes place at 14:30 for the senior men.

Robyn Ellis has posted an announcement on facebook. Please respond to that and also let us know when you would be available to help.  As a bonus all volunteers will receive club championship points.

Parking can be an issue so if you can walk, cycle or get dropped off at Blaise that would help those who are driving from further afield.

Club Supper. The next club supper night is Monday 16th December (after the Brailsford Lights run) and this time we have a veggie or meat curry, plus the pub have promised it will be hot (by which I mean in temperature, not on the Scoville scale!) £6 to be payable to Louise, and by the 11th December.

Training Dates. The last training session this year will be Thursday 19th December. This will be an efforts session lead by Jayne. We will then commence training again on Monday 6th January

Membership Discounts.  To those who have requested them discount cards will be available from Lizzy at this Monday’s training.

Congratulations.
It was the Castle Coombe Chilly 10k today (Sunday) and we had a lot of Westbury runners taking part. James Harrod, Tom Grange and Alistair Blackwood all went flying around in sub 40 mins, with James achieving a 2nd place in category. Liz Lovelock, Nick Clay and Lindsey Clark also ran, Liz and Lindsey had 8th place category wins.

Ben Rawlins was also at Castle Coombe but competing in the Duathlon event. Duathlon consists of a running leg, followed by a cycling leg and then another running leg.

The Gloucester 10k is a nice flat and fast route. From Westbury we had Colin Pemble taking part.

Also, well done to everybody who took part in parkruns, too many of you to mention here!

Did I miss you out from an event? If so, let us all know what you did via facebook.

Ok, I know it took place last week but I don’t need any excuse to show Westbury runners in their England kit. Well done to Katie Hughes, Nigel Gates and Vicky Tester (photographed below) after competing at the British and Irish Masters Cross Country International.

Interesting Running Fact. During the Great Wall of China Marathon, runners have to climb 5,164 steps. Source: Sworkit website
