2019 Bristol Post and Bristollive Sports Awards Thursday 14th November. Just a reminder that Westbury Harriers have been nominated for the Community Club of the Year Award. Our club Chairman, Jim Murphy, has very generously paid for a table at this prestigious event.
For the chance to attend the dinner all you need to do is send your details to Jim via chairman@westburyharriers.co.uk. Please do so by the end of this week for a chance to be included in the draw.
Club Championship Races. Unfortunately the Two Bays Tough Ten is not taking place in 2020. Instead, the Club Championship Committee have replaced it with the River Avon Trail 10k by Aspire Running Events. A stunning off-road, multi-terrain course which will incorporate thrilling trails, open countryside and woodlands.
There are three waves for the race start, simply to ease congestion at the first kissing gate. If we all aim for the 10am start we can race together.
Club Championship Standings. As promised last week I have the latest standings (as of 6 October 2109), thanks Judy.
Starting with the women, in first place we have Kay Ridgwell with a score of 311 points. Then, the current club champion, Judy Knights with a score of 194 and Eithne Noonan in third place with 133. In fourth place Laura Pankhurst with 80 points.
The men has Ian Gawinowski in first place with a score of 238. Coming up fast, and closing the gap is Ewan Paton with 227 points. Not far behind we have Tim Carr with 202 and then Oli Beale with 130 point.
Don’t forget (Tim-Portishead, Sophie-Standish, anyone else?) unless you record your results on the website it does not count. We still have about 10 races to go before the season ends so there are plenty of chances left to score some valuable club championship points. Remember, prizes are awarded for a number of different categories, not just first place.
Couch to 5k. Thanks to the leadership and encouragement of Mike Clark (and the dedication of the runners themselves) the Couch to 5k group are progressing very well indeed. If you would like to help support the group on a training session do let Mike or Lizzy know beforehand.
Move up Monday. We have a Move-up Monday today. This is an opportunity to move up a group and by making it a little more formal you will be joined by a few others so won’t feel alone. Our group leaders will also be looking out for everybody, making sure the group stays together with plenty of loop backs.
Congratulations. Well done to everyone who ran the first Gwent League in Cardiff on Saturday, especially Daniel Pemble (U11) and Laura Chance (U13), both prize winners in the UK Athletics Cross Challenge.
Also, good running from Hayley Johnson and Jane Goodwin running the Mendip Muddle today. I told you the weather would not be as bad as last year!
Training Tip of the Week. Contributions are welcome, otherwise next week I’ll bore you with Lactate Thresholds and Vo2 Max science stuff!
