Bristol Half Marathon. Details of discounted entries, via the club, now available. Instructions below:
The Simplyhealth Great Bristol half takes place on 15 September 2019 and the organisers are offering clubs a 15% discount on group entries, making the entry £34 instead of £40 . We need 28 entries to get his discount.

So what’s the process you have to follow?
▪ You must be a fully paid up member of the club.
▪ You can pay using 3 different methods:
▪ By PayPal – send a payment to carolfee36@gmail.com for £34 Use the “I’m sending money to family or friends” and not “I’m paying for goods or services”– I am not a merchant and will not accept any additional charges; if £34 is not in my account I will not process the entry. I will be asking you for the missing amount.
▪ By bank transfer –bank details are CAROL A FEE, 11-00-01 19056268.
Send an email to carolfee36@gmail.com from the email address that you’d like the organisers to send your access code to confirming you have sent payment.

  • Entries need to be with Carol by end of Sunday, 14th July; no late entries will be accepted.
  • When the entries have been received they will be sent to the organisers in one block. An email will be sent to the entrant with details of how to enter. NOTE: Your entry to the race is NOT complete until you enter online. Sending the payment in does not mean you are entered.

BONUS This year the club has been allocated 8 free places, once final entries are in we will have a raffle on Monday at club and 8 lucky runners will have their entry refunded.

Pomphrey 5k. The course is a single loop, entirely on the Avon Cycleway, adjacent to Pomphrey Pavillon. The event on Tuesday 25th June incorporates an open mob match for any athletic or running club. To be included as a club within the Mob Match we need a minimum of 20 finishers. Race briefing at 7:20, race starts 7:30pm. Only £5 if you sign up online before 25th June. So how about it?

GWR Towpath Series 10k. Race 3 of the series takes place on Friday 5th July. Then the Mob Match follows, on Friday 19th July and the race 5, the last in the series (5K only) on Friday 9th August.

Club Championships.  We seem to be working our way through the club champ events. Was it really back in February at the Ironwood Challenge when we had the first event of the season? The next event is the Tintern Trot on Thursday 4th July at 7:30. I’m afraid the entries are now full but there are plenty of events left to do in the club champ calendar, so please do consider signing up for a race or two. The Standish Woodland Chase is still taking entries and we already have a number of Westbury runners entered. I’m going and will be offering lifts, so you don’t even need to worry about driving.

Going back to the Tintern Trot, the road to Tintern (A466) seems to undergo repairs every year and 2019 is no exception. The road has been closed for some time now but is supposedly due to reopen at the end of the month. If it does not, which is highly likely, the diversion is massive so give yourself plenty of time. I’ll keep checking the Chepstow Harriers Facebook page and let you know the roads status nearer the time.

Running Week 5th- 11th October. Colin is organising a ‘nice’ running week in Nice, along the coast and around the mountains of Nice. Plan would be to get EasyJet return flights from Bristol on the Sat 5th Oct, return on Friday 11th. When Colin has numbers he will book an AirBnB. We can run along the coast, as well as get the train into the mountains and do mountain trail runs between stations. Done this before and it is stunning. Current costs looking like this.

Return Flights £50-£100
Accommodation approx £50 per night per person total £300
Total £400 plus food and local transport.
Please confirm that you are interested and confirmation will be when you book a flight. 8 people already confirmed so why not come and have fun in the sun as Westbury Go On Tour !

A busy week for Westbury. Both Sandra Williams and Eithne Noonan were age category winners in last weeks Rowberry Romp. Well done on the win and gaining those Club Champ points!

On a scorching Friday evening we also had the Nailsea Beer and Banger Festival 10k. This was won by Matt Ellis, from Westbury Harriers, in a very fast time of 33:52.  Clare Eskell made the journey from London to compete in this event, and it was very much worth her effort. An age category win for Clare, with Sarah Andrews only a yard behind.

Sunday 27th October. Nightingale Nightmare.  This is a fantastic event hosted by Southville running club. Everybody, and I mean everybody, dresses up in halloween outfits for this event (if you don’t you will look out of place!). It’s an off-road event, about 10k in length around the woods of Leigh Woods. There are also some very impressive halloween themed cakes at race HQ (Ashton Park School).

I dressed up as a skeleton last year and Southville running club volunteers applied the face paint for me. I looked very impressive during the run, although a little bit odd on the drive home, having forgotten to wipe off my skeleton face!

Places go very quick, within 24 hours. I’ll keep you posted as to when registration opens.
