Weekly News

Social Activities. It would be great to have more social events during the year. It would be even better to have your involvement and input in arranging these! We are asking every group to get together to arrange one social event this year. It doesn’t have to be running oriented and, in fact, it would be good if it weren’t!

If events can raise money for our nominated charity, the Motor Neurone Disease Association, that would be incredible! If the event can involve adult and junior members, that would be fabulous!

Please post your idea, and your group number on Facebook. The committee will help with arrangements but ultimately, we want it to be your group’s event! So let’s get going…

Run and Cake. Join Anneka and Caroline for two of their favourite things on Sunday 17th February at 10am. The event starts from the Blaise clubhouse for a social run, followed by tea and cake.  The aim is to raise money for their London marathon attempts in support of SportsAid. Donate via Just Giving

#JogOn. The JogOn campaign, which loosely stands for Join together – Remain Observant – Give us a call, aims to give practical tips and guidance on how to stay safe and feel confident when out running. Avon and Somerset Police are also encouraging people to report any incidents of harassment or threatening behaviour.  If the incident is in progress they may be able to respond immediately so call 101. If it is an emergency or you feel in danger call 999. This link provides a lot more information with some tips on reporting and how to stay safe. JogOn

Blaise Blazer. Entries are now open for the Bristol Blaise Blazer on Monday 3rd June 2019. Still only £5 affiliated, £7 unaffiliated. The route is 3.5 miles long, undulating (sounds better than hilly) and running on the paths and tracks within the Blaise Castle estate. The club will also be looking for volunteers to assist (perhaps friends or family if you plan to run) nearer the time. Enter via RunBritian

Monday Group Garmin/Strava posts. If somebody from each group could post on Facebook the details of that evenings run it would be appreciated. This assists new members as well as those interested in changing group get an idea of pace and distance. It is also very useful to see routes, helping individuals and group leaders plan runs.

ARC of Attrition. Well done to Dan Summers on his 3rd place podium position. Dan was competing in a 100 mile ultramarathon around the Cornish coastline, finishing the event within 23 hours. And there’s me thinking a marathon’s a long distance to run!

Gwent XC Pontypool. A further reminder that the next Gwent XC fixture is at Pontypool on Saturday 9th Feb. Do let you team managers know ASAP if you plan to run.  Gwent League- Pontypool

Club Championship Results. I probably shouldn’t be saying this because it puts at risk my club championship placing, but…. Please, please, please don’t leave it to the last minute to add your results to the Club Champs Website, do it now! It creates a lot of stress for those that have to tally up the points in time for the awards night.
