Blaise blazer volunteering information

Please see below the positions / information with regards to the Blaise Blazer. Additional information will be sent out via email to all volunteers no later than 02/06/2023.

As you can see, a large number of volunteers are needed for the event to run successfully!
There are known hazards that apply to the whole race route:

  1. Uneven terrain, with exposed hazards such as stones, tree roots and rocks.
  2. Route may be slippery if wet.

There are some specific hazards that apply at certain locations:

  1. Joining the path from the Mansion to the Old Water Mill (section B).
  2. Sharp downhill sections (sections E, N, P & T).
  3. Sharp left hand turn to resume the route (section C, heading towards I).

Marshals need to arrive; and meet the volunteer coordinator at the Westbury Harriers Clubhouse no later than 18:40 – ideally before then for a short briefing.

The pre-race briefing will be at 19:15. All marshals are required to be at their designated locations at 19:00, confirming via text that they have arrived.

Do not leave your marshal position until the tail runner has passed and clearly stated that there are no other runners behind them.

It may be necessary to take directional arrows on the course; these will be located at the clubhouse.

Marshal Position A: Guiding runners towards the main house.
Marshal Position C: Guiding runners up the Zig-Zag - right to the top.
Marshal Position E: Guiding runners to continue following the path.
Position G: Guiding runners to take the middle path, straight ahead towards the next marshal. You should be located where you can see the participants run onto the field from the woods.
Marshal Position H: Guiding runners to continue on the path to the left. You may need to be further onto the field so that they can see to run towards you, before going through the gap.
Marshal Position C(2): Guiding runners on a sharp left hand corner, along the path.
Marshal Position J: Guiding runners across the bridge, to the right. This is the second bridge after the Giants Soap Dish.
Marshal Position K(2): Guiding runners up the incline to the right.
Marshal Position M: Guiding runners to the left, fairly soon after Marshal Position L.
Marshal Position O: Guiding runners to the right, onto the path through the woods. There is a path onto the field from the left - to help with identifying this Marshal Point.

Marshal Position D: Guiding runners to continue following the path (to the right) until the next Marshal (E).
Marshal Position F: Guiding runners to take a sharp left. This is located just after the bin on the right.
Marshal Position G2: Guiding runners towards the next marshal (H)
