ACADEMY (8-11 years)

MONDAYS 6-6.45pm

The Academy at Westbury Harriers is a well-established and thriving group, offering boys and girls from 8 to 11 years of age (school Years 3 to 6) the opportunity to discover and enjoy the possibilities that athletics has to offer. Training takes place every Monday evening during school term-times. From September to April, where we meet at Coombe Dingle Sports Complex. During the summer term, we split into two groups, with some children at Coombe Dingle and some at Blaise Castle.

During their time in the Academy, children will develop and hone the fundamental movement skills they require to progress as athletes. The Academy is fully inclusive, welcoming children of all abilities and supporting their specific and individual needs, and particular emphasis is placed on agility, balance and co-ordination skills. Most importantly though, we ensure that sessions are fun and enable children to develop their confidence and talents.

Healthy competition enables young people to realise and fulfil their potential, and opportunities are open for those who wish to compete, whether in cross country team events and track competitions or less formal events such as Junior Parkrun. Whatever a young person’s aspirations or wishes, the Academy has an opportunity for them.

Academy sessions are led by qualified coaches and volunteer run leaders, all of whom are DBS checked. We welcome extra help from parent volunteers each week too.

Westbury Harriers is a diverse club which has its roots firmly embedded in the local community.
