Westbury Harriers Weekly News

Evening all,

Congratulations to all those who raced on Tuesday evening at the Clevedon Midsummer 10km – some fantastic WH results, including 1st female for Katie Hughes and 3rd male for Matthew Cant. Next up in Club Champs races is Thornbury 10km this coming Thursday.

In other news, just a reminder to let Tamsin know by Wednesday (17/6/26) if you want one of the Ronhill Featherlight WH vests. The price is currently £60 each but may come down to £50 if more people want one. We probably won’t be putting in another order this year so don’t miss out if you are keen.

Thanks also to the WH team of volunteers who will be opening the clubhouse this Saturday (20th June) after Blaise parkrun. Do pop along for refreshments if you’re running or volunteering, and please encourage friends and other parkrunners to come along too.

WESTBURY HARRIERS – RONHILL ELITE FEATHERLIGHT BONDED VEST

Last year Dan Summers kindly organised an order of a super light Westbury race vests. The ultra featherlight fabric weight is 80gsm.

We are looking to put in another custom order. The price is high (see below). The more we order the cheaper they are. We currently have 13 people so far interested, so the price is down to £60. If you would like to order a vest please let Tamsin know by 17/06/26.Size guide here (Same sizing as our usual vests). Please note these vests are non-returnable and are not subsidised by the club like our other race kit.

Up & Running stock the same style of vests, so you can check the sizing and how it fits in store!

BLAISE PARKRUN

Join us at the pavilion for refreshments after Blaise park run – Saturday 20th June

A team of volunteers have kindly stepped forward and formed a group who will be opening up the pavilion after Blaise parkrun on the 3rd Saturday of the month. The aim of this is to utilise use of the clubhouse more, for Westbury members to have an easy and quick social after parkrun as many members already come along and participate, to include the local running community by offering this to other parkrunners and using this as an opportunity to showcase the club for potential new members. Our first opening is Saturday 20th June 2026. So come along after running or volunteering at parkrun for a chat and refreshments. Subsequent Saturdays are 18th July and 15th August.

This is an Avon championship road relay. Each person in a team runs a 5km circular route on local country lanes and paths. Westbury always have loads of teams at this event, so do come along and get involved it is always a fun and social morning. It is a great event local event, enjoyable and suitable for everyone. Held at the cricket club, where there is small children’s playground and plenty of space if you are bringing the family. We look to ensure everyone is included. From putting out competitive teams, welcoming new club members into a relay event and a great starting point for those who may not have run in a relay before. Don’t worry if you will have just come off holiday or won’t have done much running over the summer, it will be the same for everyone. It is good season starter. The organiser has put a team limit this year of 70 teams in total as the event is getting so popular, so early sign up again would be appreciated.

2. TRAINING THIS WEEK

MONDAY – Tempo Session:

Group runs from Blaise Castle Pavilion at 6.30pm. These are perfect sessions for a Tempo pace run. Equally there are plenty of groups available if you want a recovery or social run. Book via RunTogether.

TUESDAY – Track Session:

Track at Yate

WEDNESDAY – Hill Session:

Adults, all abilities. Meet every Wednesday at 12pm, corner of Saville Road by the Downs. Sign up on RunTogether App.

THURSDAY – Interval Session:

7pm at Coombe Dingle Sports Complex.

3 sets of the following:
4 x 90 secs (reducing recovery – 1 min, 40 secs, 20 secs)

2 mins recovery between each of the sets

We will aim to do this as an out and back. The reducing recovery makes this tough! Aim is to make it the same distance for each of the 90 secs so pacing is key. Option to do 2 sets or miss the 4th interval in each set.

3. RACE RESULTS/REPORTS

CLEVEDON MIDSUMMER 10K

by Mike Mewse

Another night, another great race! After the Hogweed 10K it was on to Clevedon for the Midsummer 10K.

Another dry but very breezy evening – tough running out into the wind – but some great times.

Lots of success – and some nice big prize vouchers – for our Westbury runners. There was an outright win for Katie Hughes in an excellent 37.44 and category wins for Sandy Masters and Anne Dockery with Robyn Ellis 2nd FV50.

Matt Cant bravely took on the the leaders and hung on well in a three man breakaway to secure a fine 3rd place in 33.05. Tom Peaston was our next man in with a 35.43 – a 4 minute PB ! Mark Statter picked up 3rd V40 in 36.14 as the Westbury men fielded a big squad of V40s and V50s – with some very impressive times.

Our thanks to Adrian, Clevedon’s Race Director, and his great team, plus the sponsors Kinisi Run Hub for putting on a top class race.

Oh…. and the Clevedon Scouts – great cakes and hot drinks. Much appreciated on a chilly evening!

WH results listed below and do check out the WH Facebook page for lots of great photos of the race from Mike.
